Thin Section Bearing
Thin section bearings are designed for applications where space is limited, helping to meet challenging specifications commonly in high tech applications. The makeup of the thin section bearing helps to contribute saved space, saved weight, great running accuracy, and design flexibility. These bearings are designed from a limited number of widths and thicknesses/cross-sections. Each cross-section produced in a vast range of bore diameters. The cross-section remains the same as the bore diameter increases. Thin section bearings have super-finished raceways which provide a smooth surface finish that helps to reduce friction. The bearings also have a high quality ball component to ensure a smooth rolling performance. Thin section bearings are used in medical equipment, robotics, construction equipment, food processing, and textile machinery. The following are some key considerations and benefits of thin section bearings:
- Saves weight
- Saves space
- Reduces friction
- High speed performance
- High rotation accuracy
- Accurate positioning
- Variety of cross sections and sizes
The size and width of thin section bearings vary according to their use and application. These bearings are made from 52100 chrome steel and 440C stainless steel. They come in a series as well, consisting of the SR series, the 6700 series, the 6800 series, the 63800 series, and the 6900 series. Some sizes of these bearings can be produced open, shielded, or sealed. A bearing is considered a thin section bearing when the bore diameter is greater than 4 times the radial cross section. There are three contact styles for thin section bearings. The three styles are radial contact, angular contact, and four point contact.
