Self-Aligning Ball Bearings
This type of bearing is recommended when alignment of the shaft and housing is difficult as the shaft may flex. The outer ring has a spherical raceway and its center of curvature coincides with that of the bearing, giving the axis of the inner ring, balls and cage an area of deflection. Pressed steel, bronze and polyamide cages are normally used. Since the contact angle is small, the axial capacity will be as well. Available in both the cylindrical and tapered bore, the permissible misalignment has a range of 4 to 7 degrees under normal loads.
